Team Learning
Our team building curriculum is an opportunity for our students to build resilience in problem solving. Often, we are presented with challenges and have our initial defense or reaction to the problem. Our students are provided activities to help challenge the want to use the monster/mouse or sword/shield thinking and really tap into how students can reason with the feeling and move into team problem solving. Students begin our process by learning how to take a quick fix in moments where individual frustration occurs, which moves into group work. Our students learn general principles of spotting, as well as adventure based learning concepts like challenge by choice to aid in expressing individual needs in a challenging situation. Students progress through our low cable elements like monkey tails and wobbling woozy to engage in a group problem solving process, as well as individual growth with their team. Most recently, our students have been able to complete high challenges such as our team wall, and celebrating with a zipline outing to Camp Decorah. As students practice the patterns of problem solving within our designated low cable elements, there becomes more room for new patterns to grow, which provides more challenging opportunities for these students to practice within their group dynamic.
