Body & Brain Balancing (B&B)

What is it:  Slow, steady, repetitive, rhythmic physical movement designed to promote focus in the brain and the body.  B&B is physical activity that takes technique, not athleticism.  Rhythm is a big part of B&B, and that makes the movement easier to learn, practice, and remember.

Why we do it:  Students reset from academics throughout the day while simultaneously preparing their brain for more learning.  Students work on managing their energy, whether it's at a high level or a low level, and improve their plug-in ability.  It is a skill that students can practice and improve every day.  Research shows that students can improve their focus and problem-solving abilities by doing these exercises.

How it works:  B&B exercises take no more than ten minutes.  The space is usually set up as a calm environment.  There is no talking between students during these sessions, as this is supposed to be a reset time for them to focus on themselves.  If students have low energy, a high energy B&B session will be done, such as Beat Saber, to wake students up to get ready for academics.  If students have high energy, a lower energy B&B session will be done, such as Balance-Auditory-Visual-Exercise (Bal-A-Vis-X), to reset and prepare students for academics.  All B&B exercises use minimal equipment.
