What's Happening at the Ranch

 

Week of 4/12/2021

 

Outdoor:

This week in the outdoors we will be continuing working on the video project!! The expectations will be the same as last week. Reminder to bring any costume materials you may need!!  

 

Monday with Explorers- Begin filming video kids have created with Laura- reminder to bring any costume materials!!

 

Tuesday with Exped- being filming video kids have created with Laura- reminder to bring any costume materials!!

 

Wednesday- TRIP CLASS - kids will practice setting up camp, having lunch around the fire, tearing down camp

 

Thursday - ADV- finish scripts for video project/potentially begin filming

 

Friday ADV - Outing to Winona

 

 

STEM:

 

Monday (Explorers): 

  • Van worksheet about garden plants and the parts of the plants we eat.

  • Watch a video about developing chicken eggs and how they get oxygen inside the egg.

  • Candle chicken eggs to see how they are developing in the incubator.

  • Check on seedling development in Wolf Den.

  • Plant seeds in the salad garden box. These will be cool weather crops like lettuce, spinach, kale, etc.

 

Tuesday (Exped):

  • Van worksheet that reviews beekeeping and honeybee ecology.

  • After chicken chores, we will candle the chicken eggs to see how they are developing in the incubator.

  • Review beekeeping equipment. Practice putting on protective gear: veil, long sleeves and gloves.

  • Apply another coat of paint to the beehives.

 

Wednesday: Traveling Ranch Day in Menomonie

 

Thursday (Adv):

  • Van worksheet about plant needs and photosynthesis.

  • Photosynthesis recipe.

  • Split into two small groups if needed:

    • Candle chicken eggs to see how they are developing in the incubator.

    • Plant life cycle sorting activity. I will need staff to help facilitate this activity while I take a small group to check out the eggs just like last week.

  • Review seed planting instructions. Plant two different types of potato seeds in the potato garden boxes.
